Whenever we arrive in Barajas airport in Madrid, we immediately head over to one of the many cafes and order a café con leche, then a delicious bocadillo de jamón with thin slices of Serrano ham and Manchego cheese on a fresh baguette. Add some extra virgin olive oil and piquillo peppers for a sandwich that is quintessentially Spanish - fresh, simple and delicious!

How To Cook


Slice baguette lengthwise. Drizzle olive oil over interior of baguette.


Arrange thin slices of Jamón Serrano on bottom half of baguette, followed by thin slices of Manchego cheese, then piquillo peppers. Cut into 2 pieces and serve. 

Serve with Spanish potato chips and banderillas!

One of the best sandwiches you will ever eat. Very simple yet loaded with flavor. I make mine with thin slices of tomato. I've also drizzled basil oil over mine and even warmed them in a panini press. The meat and cheese are the stars with ordinary crusty bread but that Galician will put it over the top.

These are possibly the best sandwiches we've ever had. We had them two days in a row for lunch. We ordered the Bocadillo Sandwich kit from La Tienda. Delicious Galician bread, Manchego cheese, jamon, and a little bit of olive oil paired with some Spanish olives- to die for!
